Nya Jelisa is a nickname. My real name is Aniyah Cotton. Ever since I was a child, I've known that I have a calling to the arts, more specifically, self-expression. Like most people, when I expressed myself I was met with opposing opinions and limited projections. After highschool, I spent 5 years learning who I truly was behind everything that I was taught to be.
The conclusion that I came to was that I am an artist. I'm just a person. A person that has shed the artificial skin that society created for me and been rebirthed as my authentic self. The rest of my journey from here on out is about expressing my authenticity in hopes that it brings me inner fulfillment and inspires others like me to do the same.
